It is a mid-engine truck with 42hp and is available with either a 4 speed manual transmission and a Hi-Lo transfer case or on the fly 4x4 with 5 speed manual transmission where the lowest gear is a crawl gear. It is also available with an electronic rear Diff Lock but these units are becoming increasingly harder to find. It has struts in the front and leaf springs in rear, which makes it simple to lift up to 3 inches without throwing the driveline geometry off excessively.

The main oddity with the DD51T is that it's wheel bolt pattern is 114.3x4 making them slightly harder to find off-road/mag wheels for.
